Common questions

Short answers to the questions people most often have when they are new to homeopathy.

How fast does a remedy work?

In acute complaints, often within minutes to a few hours. In long-standing conditions, improvement builds over days to weeks.

What if I choose the wrong remedy?

Usually nothing happens at all. Stop it and try the next closest match. In the rare event you have an undesired reaction to a remedy, the homeopathic remedy Camphora 200C can be taken as one dose, one time to quickly halt the action of other remedies. Be aware that this may also stop the action of any prescription medications you may be taking. Wait 24 hours, then begin again with a new remedy.

Can I take it with my medication?

Generally yes — remedies don't chemically interact with drugs. Keep taking anything your doctor prescribed and discuss changes with them.

Can I take more than one remedy?

Yes, when they suit the case. Remedies commonly used together are listed in the "Frequently taken with" box. Ideally, space them a few minutes apart.

My symptoms briefly got stronger — is that bad?

In chronic conditions, a short, mild intensifying can happen before improvement. This is called an aggravation and is a good sign that you chose the correct remedy and your body is responding to it. Aggravations usually settle quickly within 24 hours and are much more common in the higher potencies used by professional homeopaths than in those used in home care. If symptoms are severe or keep worsening, consider Camphora 200C, discussed above.

Is homeopathy safe?

Remedies are non-toxic, non-addictive, and do not build up in the body, which is why they are used for babies, pregnancy, breastfeeding and elders.

Where do I buy remedies?

Health food shops, many pharmacies, online retailers and distributers and homeopathic pharmacies online. Choose well known, established brands when possible. A small home kit of common 30C remedies covers most everyday needs.

Do I need to avoid coffee or mint?

Traditional homeopaths believe that it is necessary to keep strong mint, camphor, and strong coffee away from dosing times. Modern experience is showing that's unnecessary, particularly when using low potencies and dosing frequently as is suggested in the Remedy Finder and common in home care. Most people use remedies successfully without giving these up at all, but if you're not getting the results you are looking for it is something to consider.
